Historically
our ancestors have utilised stone as a material to construct some
of the most impressive buildings and monuments on earth. Armagh
Marble is such a stone, giving a character of nobility entirely
suited in its use to adorn the palace of the ancient Kings of Ireland
on the hill Emain Macha, seat of Conchubar the King sited at Navan
Fort and later to enhance St. Patrick's First Church at Ard Macha
where the cathedral now stands in Armagh City.
Thomas
Ogle, sovereign of Armagh worked and polished Armagh Marble in the
late 1700s for export to various parts of the UK for extensive use
in enhancing the ecclesiastical and domestic buildings of the era.
It
is perhaps not surprising then that Armagh Marble Company established
in 1998 has been such a success considering the quality of the marble
from local quarries and the highly talented craftsmen who carry
on traditional skills passed on by a generation of artisans. The
company has established a reputation of consistent commitment to
quality producing a highly desirable range of marble products.
